I’ve been on a bit of a pick journey recently. I had been playing the Snark Teddys Neo Tortoise picks (really good for the price!) and beveling them myself. Since I was getting back into flatpicking I wanted a little upgrade so I went for the BlueChip CT55, a pick I had really loved in the past for mandolin and flatpicking. It arrived and I was thrilled, excellent pick as good as I remembered. This led me to the thought: are there other boutique pick companies? And oh boy are there other boutique pick companies. I ordered from Toneslabs, Red Bear, Apollo, Token, and Picksmith (along with getting my hands on a couple of genuine shell picks). Upon receiving them and using them, I can report that there are some truly excellent picks being made today. Sorry to ramble about other companies so much, but it all leads to Honey Picks. I found out about Honey last of all these companies, and quickly ordered a Bumblebee 1.5 in Resin. It was actually the material I was least excited about of the ones I was interested in, but I loved the look of the material from Dank Blanks. It showed up fast, and I’m international. Great presentation; they included a cute little sticker, a nice cloth drawstring pouch perfect for picks capos etc, and a Bit o Honey candy! And the pick? Absolutely excellent. I’ve been shooting it out against the other companies and shell and I choose the Honey every time. Truly excellent tone, smooth against the string, perfect bevel, and virtually no pick noise. Only tiny complaint I have is that the material does shed/chip ever so slightly. With heavy use (I can have an aggressive right hand) it gets a little scratchy, but nothing a little buff with a light, fine sanding pad won’t fix in no time. Ordered 3 more in other materials the same day, I’ll be impressed if they’re better than the resin. Simply the best pick (in my humble opinion)
